Data preprocessing is highly recommended to reduce computational costs and improve the consistency and reliability of estimates from latent achievement trait models estimated with SGP methods. This is accomplished by removing common covariances that affect estimates for individual students/teachers/schools/districts and by reducing the number of variables that are aggregated to create student groups by content area, grade level, etc.
