The BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize 2024 was awarded to five scientists from Hong Kong today. The prizes, each worth HK$2 million, will support their research in artificial intelligence and robotics, life and health, new materials and energy, advanced manufacturing, and fintech. The prize also aims to sow the seeds of scientific spirit, exploration and innovation in Hong Kong people and nurture more young talent for the future of the city.

The winner of the hongkong prize is chosen based on his or her outstanding contribution to society and a strong commitment to social responsibility. Applicants can be from any field, but their work should show a clear link to Hong Kong and be of broader significance to society. Besides a cash prize of HK$200,000, the winners will be invited to attend the Yidan Prize Summit and receive a certificate.

During the Summit, the finalists will be given the chance to showcase their ideas and solutions to an audience of key decision-makers in education, public policy, philanthropy, business, and the media. The Yidan Prize was founded in 2010 by a group of Hong Kong-based Chinese and international individuals, with the goal to empower people in need to build resilience and take responsibility for their lives.

In addition to the main award, a series of awards are offered to encourage young people in Hong Kong to explore different career paths. Those who are interested can sign up online to receive information about the prize and how to apply. The deadline for applications is May 31.

A police officer who won a lottery prize of more than HK$100 million this week has said that he is excited and will return to his duties after taking a break with his family. The 58-year-old policeman was reportedly among the first to buy tickets for this week’s Mark Six lottery, but had not yet checked his ticket. He reportedly bought the winning ticket from a betting shop in North Point.

The HK$100 million prize is the third time that the jackpot has reached a staggering amount in recent times. In September 2014, a jackpot of more than HK$164 million was reached, and in May 2012, it soared to $133 million. A police source said that the officer would have to report to duty once he checks his ticket.

The hongkong prize is overseen by a Board, consisting of a Review Committee, a Compliance Oversight Team, and the Secretariat. The Board is responsible for reviewing and interpreting the Charter; suggesting important scientific research fields for THE PRIZE; appointing members of the Review Committee and Compliance Oversight Team; setting requirements of nominating experts; verifying and approving the final review results; and making decisions regarding THE PRIZE. In case of a breach of the Charter, the Board has the power to terminate THE PRIZE and withdraw the prize money, certificate, and trophy. It can also impose disciplinary action on the involved party according to its decision.
